Family-owned since 1983

Licensed, bonded and insured
Oregon CCB #47396. Technicians who handle refrigerant hold EPA 608 certification, as federal law requires.
Open 24 hours, 7 days
A no-heat call at 2 a.m. reaches a person, not voicemail, any day of the week.
Our HVAC Services
Repair, replacement and maintenance for furnaces, heat pumps, central and ductless AC, water heaters, ventilation and ductwork, in homes and commercial buildings from Florence to Woodburn.
Air Conditioning
Central AC repair, replacement and new installs. New split systems use R-454B or R-32 refrigerant, and we still service the R-410A units most valley homes have.
Heating and Furnaces
Gas and electric furnace repair and replacement. Past about 15 years, ENERGY STAR suggests weighing a replacement, and we'll put both options on paper.
Heat Pumps and Ductless
Ducted heat pumps and ductless mini-splits that heat in winter and cool in summer. Valley winters suit them, with most days between 35 and 50°F.
HVAC Installation and Replacement
Whole-system replacements for furnaces, heat pumps and central AC. Every quote starts with a room-by-room load calculation, and we pull the permit.
Diagnostics and Repair
No heat, no cooling, odd noises, short cycling or a tripped breaker. We find the cause, and you get a written price before any work starts.
Maintenance and Tune-Ups
Seasonal tune-ups for furnaces, air conditioners, heat pumps and ductless systems. A clean coil and a checked burner in October head off first-cold-night failures.
Water Heaters
Tank, tankless and heat pump water heaters, replaced, installed and repaired. EWEB, SUB, Energy Trust and Salem Electric all pay toward a heat pump model.
Ventilation and Indoor Air
Bath and kitchen fans, ERV and HRV systems, whole-home dehumidifiers and filtration. In smoke season a MERV 13 filter traps the fine particles.
Duct Cleaning
Air duct cleaning for homes and commercial buildings, clearing dust, pet hair, debris and construction residue. Kitchen hood cleaning is a separate fire-code trade we don't do.
Emergency HVAC Service, 24 Hours a Day
No heat, no cooling or a leaking water heater? We answer around the clock, 7 days a week.

Residential HVAC Services
Heating and cooling for homes in Eugene, Springfield, Salem and Keizer
Most houses we work on run one of three setups. A gas furnace with central AC, a heat pump with an air handler, or dual fuel, which pairs the two. We repair all three. When it's time to replace, the new system is sized from a room-by-room load calculation, not guessed from the old one.
Homeowners in Eugene and Springfield call (541) 461-2101. In Salem and Keizer, the number is (503) 581-9982.
Commercial HVAC Services
Offices, shops, restaurants, churches and small rental buildings
We repair and maintain rooftop units, commercial furnaces, split systems and ductless heat pumps, and we clean ducts in commercial buildings. For larger or specialty equipment, call and we'll talk through the job.
Licensed, bonded and insured under Oregon CCB #47396, serving businesses from Eugene to Salem.

Why Choose James Heating
You get a written price before work starts, equipment sized to your house, and we handle the permit and rebate paperwork. These six standards apply to every job we take on.
A written price before work starts
You see the number before a technician picks up a tool. On a replacement, the quote lists your options side by side.
Systems sized to your house
Every replacement quote includes a Manual J load calculation, room by room, instead of copying the size off the old unit's label.
Permits pulled for you
Oregon requires a mechanical permit for a furnace, AC or heat pump replacement. We pull it and schedule the inspection.
Rebates checked before we quote
Your utility decides which heat pump or water heater rebate you can get. We check the one that fits your address before you sign.
Ruud and Rheem authorized dealer
New furnaces, heat pumps and air conditioners come from Ruud, with Rheem also available in the Salem area.
Old equipment hauled away
Install crews recover refrigerant, remove the old unit, clean up and walk you through the new system before they leave.

About James Heating and Air Conditioning
A Eugene family business since 1983
James Heating started in Eugene in 1983 and has stayed family-owned for more than four decades. Our technicians cover Lane County and the Mid-Willamette Valley, from Florence and Oakridge north to Salem, Keizer and Woodburn.
We repair, install and maintain furnaces, heat pumps, air conditioners, ductless systems and water heaters for homes and businesses, licensed, bonded and insured under Oregon CCB #47396.
Heat Pump, Furnace or Dual Fuel System
Picking a system for a Willamette Valley home
A furnace makes heat by burning gas or running electric coils. A heat pump moves heat in from the outdoor air, then runs in reverse to cool the house in summer. Dual fuel pairs the two, with the heat pump carrying most of the load and the furnace taking over on the coldest nights.
Eugene's normal January low is about 35°F (National Weather Service), so a heat pump handles most valley winters. If your gas furnace is fairly new, adding a heat pump for dual fuel can beat tearing it out. Your electric utility decides which heat pump rebate you qualify for, and we check it before we quote. See Oregon HVAC rebates by utility.

What Happens When You Call
A person answers 24 hours a day. If you can, have the system's age and the symptom ready (no heat, short cycling, a new noise or a tripped breaker) so the technician arrives with the right parts.
1. Call your area number
Eugene and Springfield, (541) 461-2101. Salem and Keizer, (503) 581-9982. Tell us what the system is doing.
2. Diagnosis and a written price
A technician tests the system, explains what failed in plain English and writes up the price. Nothing starts until you say yes.
3. The work, done and checked
Repairs get tested before we leave. Replacements include the permit, the inspection, refrigerant recovery, haul-away and a walkthrough.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do you offer 24/7 emergency HVAC service?
Yes. We answer 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. For no heat, no cooling or a leaking water heater, call (541) 461-2101 in Eugene and Springfield or (503) 581-9982 in Salem and Keizer.
Which number should I call?
Call (541) 461-2101 for Eugene and Lane County towns such as Springfield, Junction City, Cottage Grove, Creswell, Veneta, Florence and Oakridge. Call (503) 581-9982 for Salem, Keizer, Silverton, Stayton, Woodburn, Albany, Corvallis, Dallas and the rest of the Mid-Valley.
How much will my repair or new system cost?
It depends on what's wrong, the equipment and the house, so we don't quote a number over the phone. The technician diagnoses the system first, and you get a written price before any work starts. Replacement quotes list the options side by side.
Should I repair or replace my furnace or AC?
Age is the first clue. ENERGY STAR suggests considering replacement for a furnace older than about 15 years and an air conditioner or heat pump older than about 10. After that, compare the repair price with what the system has left in it. We'll give you both numbers.
Does a heat pump work in the Willamette Valley?
Yes, through most of the winter. Eugene's normal January low is about 35°F, and modern heat pumps keep heating well below freezing. On the coldest nights, backup heat or a gas furnace in a dual fuel setup takes over. More on choosing a system.
Are there rebates for a new heat pump or water heater?
Usually, and your electric utility decides which one. EWEB, Springfield Utility Board, Energy Trust of Oregon (for PGE and Pacific Power) and Salem Electric each run their own program. The federal 25C tax credit ended December 31, 2025. See Oregon HVAC rebates by utility.
Do you pull the permit?
Yes. Oregon requires a mechanical permit for replacing a furnace, air conditioner or heat pump, and an electrical permit for a new circuit such as a ductless install. We pull it and schedule the inspection.
What brands do you install?
We're a Ruud Authorized Dealer, and a Rheem Authorized Dealer in the Salem area. If you already have equipment from another maker, call and tell us what it is.
